There is no question that the internet and the number of consumers online is growing every year and I wanted to be a part of that.

There are a lot of key things to think about, and one of them is the structure of the compensation plan of each multi level marketing opportunity.

Before you can really evaluate the compensation plan of your prospective opportunity, you need to set a clear goal on how much money you’re going to make every month (notice I didn’t say how much you want to make, but how much you are GOING to make).

Once you have that number in mind (and you have to be both aggressive and reasonable – you don’t want to sell yourself short, nor do you want to be unrealistic), look at how many sales you’ll have to make each month under this comp plan.

As your team grows, you will begin to earn some residual income – that’s one of the biggest benefits of a multi level marketing opportunity in the first place – but don’t rely on that happening right away. Plan on supporting yourself with your own sales – then any revenue generated from the team below you is sort of like a bonus.

If the number of required sales is reasonably attainable, great! If not (maybe you’ll need to make a thousand or more sales to meet your goals?) then you may want to look at more aggressive plans.

Another incredibly crucial aspect of any opportunity is the product that goes along with it.

You only want to market a product you truly believe in. By selling whatever your company offers, you are basically putting your seal of approval on it.

Think about it, would you buy something if you could tell the person selling it thought it was crap? I think not – and that’s exactly what happens when you market a product you don’t believe in.

Personal belief, however, isn’t always enough! Your company also has to have a truly valuable product.

If the only real benefit of the product you’re selling is that it comes attached to a business opportunity, it won’t sell very well.

At the end of he day, you never want to be in the position of selling a product that is nothing but bait to get people to join your business. Products like that don’t generally work very well, and when they do they rarely lead to team members that are going to stay with you for the long haul.

The short answer is no, but there are definitely things to keep in mind.

Actually starting your own small home business can be somewhat easy as there are so many great opportunities on the internet today. Keep in mind though, starting a small home business and being successful are not one in the same. Being successful will require you to work hard.

The MLM or network marketing industry is providing people, just like you, with the opportunity to work from home and have both time and financial freedom.

Everything you will need to start a network marketing business, you can find online. You just have to know where to look.

Through all the noise on the internet, it’s sometimes difficult to figure out the good opportunities from the not so good. That is why I want to share the following tips with you to help you with making your decision.

First and foremost, it is important to look for a good mentor. Do your due diligence and look for someone who shares some of your passions. Look for someone who is genuinely invested in this industry and, more importantly, in helping you do well.

Second, make sure that the company you are joining is offering products/services that you care about. This is no longer a job after all. It’s your own small home business, so make sure you are going to be selling something you actually care about and can stand behind.

Third, find out what type of training is going to be available to you so that you can hit the ground running, so to speak. This is something to think about not just for yourself and your own business, but also for your future prospects and downline.

Fourth, be prepared to invest in yourself and your business. I am always amazed by how many people are looking for a “free” business. For some reason, spending any money to start a small home business is thought by many as a scam.

This one I have difficulty understanding. In order to start a franchise, you would have to invest potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars and may not see a profit for quite a while.

So, make sure you have the right mindset. I’m not suggesting that you give all your money to anyone who asks for it, but be prepared to invest some money into yourself and your business.

Last of all, do your due diligence and don’t forget to trust your gut. Sometimes, you might just have a good feeling about something and can’t really explain it. Sometimes, it’s just the opposite.

Do your due diligence, but don’t be shy about trusting those gut feelings. Speaking from my own experience, some of the best things I have come from trusting my gut. Don’t get me wrong, I do my research too, but my gut typically isn’t wrong, and neither is yours!

1. An Open Mind

For plenty of people, having an online business and earning money on the internet is a whole new experience. Most of us have been conditioned our entire lives to believe that success comes only to those who “go to school, get good grades, and get a good job.”

Fortunately, especially in today’s world, this is certainly not the case.

Look at what is going on in our economy. People are getting laid off left and right, others are losing their retirement money right before their eyes and still others are being foreclosed on because they can’t pay their mortgage.

Sadly, they are good people who simply followed this paradigm above.

They studied hard and got good grades. They went off to college. Then, they got themselves a “good” job. So, why is it that they aren’t successful? Why are they struggling to pay their mortgage?

Well, let me explain.

Things have changed. The old ideas we were taught don’t work anymore, and as a society, we haven’t discovered that yet. Now, I’m not saying that getting good grades, going to college and getting a good job is bad. I’m just saying that it isn’t the only “formula for success” as many would like us to believe.

A lot of the time, when someone starts an internet based business, their family and friends tell them that they are crazy. People will frequently say things like “Is this such a good idea? The economy isn’t very good.”

The bottom line is that it’s a great idea and provides people with more security. You see, by building your own business, you are investing in yourself and your future, rather than depending on someone else.

Personally, I don’t want to invest my time and energy into a job I don’t really like to build someone else’s business, only to worry when I might be laid off…you?

This is where having an open mind comes into play. Having an internet business can be very rewarding and can provide you with so much financial and time freedom, but you have to be prepared to let go of some of the old ideas we have all been conditioned to believe throughout our lives.

What is possible will seem like the impossible if you are holding on to those old beliefs. We have to remember how powerful our minds are. If we believe something is impossible, it may as well be.

What we believe in our lives becomes our reality…but that’s a topic for another day!

2. A Desire To Learn

In order to have long term success as an internet marketer, you are going to need learn how to market online, including the fundamentals as well as the advanced concepts, and everything in between.

More than likely, these are skills you probably don’t have right now, but with a motivation to learn, they are skills you will soon possess and they will be something you can not put a price tag on.

Earning money on the internet is like anything else new that you do in life. Think back to when you picked up a baseball bat for the first time. More than likely, you weren’t an all-star the first time you played, but after practicing and sticking with it, I bet you were a great player.

The same applies here and to almost anything else in life. It really doesn’t matter if was basketball, baseball, hockey, softball, a musical instrument or whatever. The concept is still the same.

Learn the fundamentals, practice and implement and you will be successful. There are no short cuts here!

3. Determination & Drive

Before you begin to earn money on the internet, you must be sure that you are willing to do whatever you need to in order to be successful. Just as with anything else in life, there are going to be bumps along the way.

What’s important is that you have the determination and the drive to be successful. That is what will get you through all of those ups and downs.

Think of it this way. If you aren’t determined and don’t have that drive, then the first bump in the road might be just enough to send you back to your steady paycheck that you are used to. Things will go back to the way they were and nothing will have changed.

This is alright, if that is what you really want, but is it?

4. Leadership and Training

This is a definite must. Let’s say you wanted to become an electrician. Would you go around just changing light fixtures and messing around with fuse boxes when you have no idea what you are doing?

I really hope not.

You would get the proper education and training, and more than likely become an apprentice to another electrician.

This is how we learn. We find a good mentor who can provide us with the right training. Someone who is genuinely interested in our well-being. Someone who has been where we are, understands our goals, and wants to help us reach them and be successful.

Don’t sell yourself short on this one.

Do your due diligence. Look for someone that you can work with and who wants to work with you. Look for someone who can offer you great training and guidance. This will cut months, even years, off of your learning curve.

There are no short cuts in this business, but getting the proper training can save you a lot of headaches in the long run so do your homework!

Well, now you know what you need in order to earn money on the internet, so go get started and don’t ever look back!

At most, you might have time to throw back some cereal or toast. You figure you’ll grab a cup of coffee on the way to work.

Oh no! Now you’re worrying about your ride to work. If you don’t hit the road in ten minutes or less, you’re commute gets twenty minutes longer – making you late. Again.

Let’s talk about a couple of basic concepts first.

Take a minute to think about all the people you know. How many of them are online every day? I’m guessing it’s a pretty big number.

This is why I’m saying that the internet has changed things forever. Every week, every month, and every year, more and more people spend more time online.

More people are going online to get the news.

Each year, more people join social networks.

I’m sure you know that, as of the writing of this article, Facebook gets the second highest amount of traffic on the internet. The only site that gets more traffic is Google. All of us are spending more time on the internet. Period.

Learning the skills necessary to successfully market online will provide you not only with financial freedom, but more importantly time freedom.

“Job security” is the other concept I would like to talk about. I remember when Chad and I first started our online business. There were quite a few people who thought we were a little bit crazy.

They were worried that we were getting involved in some sort of scam or something. Nothing could have been farther from the truth, but fear of the unknown can make people say things like that.

Unfortunately, network marketing is widely misunderstood and many people make snap judgements based on things they’ve heard from others. In our experience, sometimes those people don’t even really know why they have misgivings about this industry.

The truth of the matter is that when it comes to security, we actually have more, because nobody can take away what we have built. Nobody can decide tomorrow that we are expendable. Nobody can put us into the next group of layoffs. We are in control of what happens to us and our business.

We don’t have to spend our valuable time going to a job we don’t like and then worry about losing it. Of course there is some type of security in a steady paycheck and many people don’t want to take that leap of faith. It can be scary, and for some, maybe too scary.

However, if you are still reading this you must believe and trust deep down that there is a better way. There is a way to work from home and not have to live paycheck to paycheck.

You can have a legitimate home business. You can spend more time with your family. You get to set your own schedule. You get to take as many vacations as you want, when you want.

Trust me. We know how many opportunities you see online every day. Who can you believe? What’s legitimate? What’s real?

1. Is it free to join? You know the saying, “You get what you pay for;” well, if you pay nothing, guess what you are going to get?

There are many people who feel that if they have to spend money to start an online business, then it’s a scam. I can’t say I’ve ever really understood that mentality.

Let’s pretend we are talking about a traditional offline business. What business are you aware of that doesn’t require any capital to get started?

Exactly.

I’m not suggesting to just give your money to anyone who asks for it, but be prepared to invest some money and that doesn’t meant it’s not legitimate. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

2. Are they promising you thousands of dollars in your first 30 days with essentially no work involved? Big red flag here. First of all, it’s rare to come off the street and be a success in 30 days.

The network marketing industry does in fact provide a wonderful platform where you can make a lucrative income in a short period of time. However, be prepared for it to take longer than 30 days to be able to quit your job, and you will actually have to do work.

3. Don’t be afraid if you have to fill out an application. You should welcome this one. This means that the opportunity you are looking at doesn’t just let “anyone” in.

This is good for you, so don’t shun it. This means they are serious entrepreneurs looking for qualified prospects, and this will help ensure you will attract more qualified consultants in the future onto your team.

4. When you are looking for a mentor who will be your sponsor, look for someone who is a leader and who is serious about this business. Look for someone who you feel like you connect with and who is going to be there to help you and guide you.

The final piece of advice I can give is to do your due diligence and don’t be afraid to listen to your gut. Typically your gut is right, whether it’s saying something or someone is good or bad.

Don’t forget to always do your due diligence every step of the way though. There are so many legitimate legitimate work from home opportunities out there that will allow you to have your own business. Be open-minded and don’t be afraid to learn about something new.

So, you’re searching for top MLM companies. Why?

Are you looking for a great company to join? Looking for the top MLM companies might not be the best way to make this decision.

Before we talk about anything else, let’s talk for a minute about MLM. What is Network Marketing all about?

The concept is simple. A company has a product or service they wish to sell, but doesn’t want to make the costly investment of setting up retail stores around the city/country/world. Instead, they have consultants or distributors market and sell their products or services.

Paying for retail space as well as utilities, employees and insurance can be expensive so this eliminates those costs. They also don’t have to pay out the marketing expenses to gather customers for their products.

This is where the network marketer comes in. We, as network marketers are in charge of acquiring our own leads and customers for the products or services we are selling. Then we are compensated by the MLM or network marketing company we have a contract with. This is the money they would have otherwise spent on retail space, utilities, advertising etc.

Through effective marketing strategies, we are able to find customers for what we are offering. Many times, these customers decide to become distributors because it seems like a great opportunity.

Here’s the problem. It is a wonderful opportunity, but running a succcessful MLM or network marketing business doesn’t have a whole lot to do with joining the top MLM company.

Taking responsibility and ownership over your business is how you have success in network marketing. This is so important because you are starting your own business when you join a network marketing company.

Is Looking For Top MLM Companies A Bad Idea?

No. I’m not saying it’s a bad idea. It’s just that there are many other factors to think over when you are making the decision to get started in the network marketing industry.

Here are some examples:

Are you excited about the products and/or services? This isn’t a retail job where you just sell what you are told to sell. If you aren’t passionate about the product, people are going to see right through it (and you). Hint: You want a product that you care about and believe in. Something you’d be able (and want) to sell, even if it wasn’t attached to a business opportunity.

Does the network marketing company provide you with the proper tools, training and leadership? Quite possibly this might be the first time you have started your own business. You want to be sure that you will be provided with the necessary tools to be successful. Hint: This is as much for you as it is for your future team members. If there isn’t any training in place, you are going to be solely responsible for training your new members as they get started.

How is the order processing handled? Are you going to be responsible for any overhead or monthly costs? Are you going to be taking the orders or will they be handled directly through the company? Hint: You are going to want as much of this automated and handled by your company as possible to save you a lot of potential headaches and time!

How will you be compensated? Will you be able to make the type of income you desire on your own personal efforts or will it take a team of thousands beneath you to reach that goal? This is definitely something worth considering and is one of the reasons why we chose the company we did. Hint: sometimes making one or two high ticket sales can be easier, and more profitable than making hundreds of smaller sales.

Who will your sponsor be? In MLM or network marketing, you sign up under a current distributor who in turn becomes your sponsor. Make sure that you find a good sponsor. Someone who understands this industry and who is interested in helping you succeed. Hint: You want to join someone who will be there to help you with questions, and share their experiences and successes.

Ultimately, your success will be up to you, but having a good sponsor and mentor to guide you can eliminate months or even years off of your learning curve.

What are the leaders of the company like? Do they represent nothing but integrity and high morals or do you even know anything about them? Are they invested in the success of the company or are they just a face on the company newsletter? Hint: You want to be involved in a company that has the kind of leadership you can look up to – people who you could almost see as your friends, people who you can trust and respect.

So, you see, being a “top MLM company” isn’t the end-all be-all to making your decision – remember, just because a company is at the top, doesn’t necessarily mean they are anything more than a passing fad.

These are just a few things to think about when it’s time to make this important decision. Just keep in mind that you are starting your own business which is very exciting, but there is work involved.

However, if you are willing to work as hard on your business and yourself as you do on your day job, that day job will soon be just a memory!
